Designed in the midst of busy days and quiet moments, the Beam Beanie is our go-to for comfort, simplicity, and that satisfying “quick knit” feeling. It was born from the desire to create something achievable for all — especially the mamas who only have small windows to create.
The Beam Beanie is a soft, stretchy rolled-brim hat, knit in the round from the bottom up. There’s no ribbing — the brim naturally curls as you go. It’s the kind of knit you can pick up and finish in an afternoon, making it perfect for gifts or slow weekend making.
It’s written across nine sizes from newborn to adult and designed for bulky yarn (around 12-14ply), making it a cosy, instant-gratification knit with endless colour potential.
You’ll need:
- Needles: 8mm circular needles (60cm). You can find our recommended needles here .
- Yarn: Bulky weight yarn 12-14ply anything in the chunky/Bulky range works). Pair it with our wool here or our Baby Alpaca .
- Gauge / Tension: 12 stitches × 18 rows = 10cm in stockinette stitch.
- Skill Level: Beginner-friendly — soothing, satisfying, and a beautiful pattern to return to again and again.

- 0–3 months: 34–36cm
- 3–6 months: 38–40cm
- 6–12 months: 42–44cm
- 1–3 years: 45–48cm
- 4–7 years: 49–52cm
- 8–12 years: 52–54cm
- Teen / Adult Small: 54–58cm
- Medium/Large Adult: 59–64cm

Love the style and pattern but sizing could be updated to include super bulky yarn (I think it’s meant to use bulky) my size adult small/teen came out way too wide and tall, went down a full size and that worked great!

The Beam Beanie is written for bulky yarn, and using super bulky will naturally result in a larger fit, even when following the pattern exactly.

I'm a beginner knitter and managed to knit a beanie over a few nights after work with a chunky wool and the only needles I had for a 5 yr old. Fits an adult size head so will try with smaller needles. I was quite chuffed with myself 💪 I think the needles were 6mm.
Fun to knit and good pattern sizing
Great pattern. I love that it has so many different sizes. It was well explained and was my first knitting project after only doing scarves so I learnt a lot and it gave me a lot of knitting confidence.

This is definitely a must try for beginners or experts alike. It was my first attempt knitting on the round and I am hooked. Came together beautifully and now I have three more requested to to made by the family!
Absolutely obsessed.
I used alpaca wool and 8ply and doubled the yarns to make it 16ply. It worked a treat, and next I am going to use 16ply with a rainbow mohair yarn together. So excited for the results of round two.
