A simple, beginner-friendly children's knitting pattern ~ worked seamlessly from the bottom up, with a clean slip-stitch finish and an optional crochet trim. Sized from 6–12 months through to 12–13 years ~ a crop you'll knit again and again as they grow.

Yarn quantities are based on 10ply / worsted weight cotton yarn at a gauge of 15 sts × 22 rows = 10cm. If substituting with wool, you may need slightly less. Allow a little extra if you prefer a longer crop.
What you'll need
- 10ply / worsted weight cotton yarn ~ in the amount for your size (see above)
- 6mm circular needles ~ 80cm cable (works for all sizes using magic loop)
- A 40cm circular also works beautifully for the smaller sizes
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- 5mm crochet hook (optional ~ for the trim detail)

this was sooo fun and pretty simple even for a very beginner as myself :). i loved the result!! easy to follow the instructions, the photos too very helpful. I have not been knitting very long. I would still call myself a beginner. I never thought I'd be able to create a wearable garment for anyone. I stick to blankets, shawls, scarves a badly decreased hat here and there. Then I saw this bloom crop pattern. I thought 'I'd love to make this for my 2 year old granddaughter,...maybe I could?!" So I got the pattern and guess what? I did it.
I loved knitting it, it was not stressful at all. Easy to follow instructions with photos and text along with charts with tic boxes for tracking how many times you've repeated the repeat pattern. This pattern is wonderful! This little top turned out beautifully. I adore it and want to make an adult sized one for myself!

I made this for my 7 year old. I did the corresponding size. I find all of the patterns are very oversized and would downsize next time. Some of the maths of the counting didn’t seem to add up but it worked out okay in the end. Sometimes I find the pattern has sections that would be too long. Overall very happy with the vest but would love to see the patterns tested by multiple people prior to purchasing. Love the work these mamas are doing though!

This is my first successful knitting project. The instructions were easy to follow, with the addition of check boxes to keep track of where I was at in the decreasing process. Overall, the crop knit up quickly. My daughter loves her new top - I'm already making a second one. For her comfort, I knit double the body height so it wasn't cropped and omitted the crochet trim.

You’ll never find a better written pattern that incorporates all the ways your brain wants to learn: progress photos, troubleshooting, easy to comprehend instructions. An added [huge] bonus is that these Mama’s are so willing to help if and when you find yourself lost after taking a wrong turn somewhere along the way! Just so so so worth it. And the bloom crop itself - so easy to work up and totally addictive. xo
