The Mama Vest Pattern
Curated in the cracks of motherhood, this vest pattern has been a labour of love. After the beautiful response to our Embrace Vest pattern, many of you asked for a version just for the mamas ~ and so, the vision came to life. It's something we've been dreaming up for some time, and now, our second pattern is here.
The Mama Vest is a lightweight, oversized knit designed with comfort in mind. With a soft, draped shape and relaxed fit, it's the ideal layering piece for cooler months ~ yet still light enough for the trans-seasonal wear when made in a breathable cotton.
This seamless vest is worked from the bottom up in the round to the armholes, then split for the front and back panels. Ribbed edges at the hem, neckline and armholes offer a clean, polished finish that helps prevent rolling.
Needles: 6mm circulars used for both ribbing and body
Yarn: 8ply yarn (We've used Cleckheaton Country Naturals 8ply)
Gauge/Tension: 14.5 stitches and 24 rows = 10cm
Skill Level: Knitted with beginners in mind. If you've knitted our Embrace Vest, you'll find this a very achievable step. A great foundation before trying more complex garments.

Oh this Mamma vest!! I switched the bottom ribbing to a roll (because I can't get enough of a knitted roll). The pattern is so easy to follow and the built in ribbing on the shoulders is stunning. A perfect vest for layering.
Such a good pattern, so easy to read and the result is just perfect!! I love how we can make it longer or shorter too if needed, so easy!
I have started making this vest. It took me a few goes trying to work out what yarn I would use as each brand is different in ply even if they say the same. I ended up using 10ply Bendigo tweed wool and some small sections of Indigo inspirations yarn in 8ply for a bit of fun. I am size 8-10 and am making the size small. It is very oversized. Would also recommend buying the 120cm 6mm needles from Bendigo wool so that you can see how your work is progressing.
It does take a lot longer than the kids vest but I’m so excited for this one.
