The Mama Vest was curated in the quiet cracks of motherhood — a gentle, wearable layer that feels as comforting to knit as it does to wear. After the beautiful response to our Embrace Vest pattern, so many of you asked for a version just for the mamas — and slowly, this vision came to life.
The Mama Vest is a lightweight, oversized knit designed with comfort in mind. With a soft, draped shape and relaxed fit, it's the ideal layering piece for cooler months — yet still light enough for trans-seasonal wear, especially when worked in a breathable cotton.
This seamless vest is worked from the bottom up in the round to the armholes, then split for the front and back panels. Ribbed edges at the hem, neckline and armholes offer a clean, polished finish that helps prevent rolling.
You’ll need:
- Needles: 6mm circular needles used for both ribbing and body. You can find our recommended knitting needles here .
- Yarn: 8ply yarn. Beautiful in our Estate 8 Ply Wool Collection for a warm, cosy winter vest — or in our Peruvian Cotton for a lighter, breathable summer knit.
- Gauge / Tension: 14.5 stitches and 24 rows = 10cm in stockinette stitch.
- Skill Level: Knitted with beginners in mind. If you've made our Embrace Vest, this will feel like a very achievable next step.
